How prices work

Prices derive from Steam concurrent-player counts: the number of people playing a game at the same time. The pricing engine smooths those counts and adjusts for the daily player cycle.

Prices are not a valuation of any game and are not investment advice. They are part of a game, not a real financial market.

Accounts and trading

Any game’s page is open without an account. Sign in with your email address for the whole market and a play-money portfolio, and trade from any game’s page whenever trading is open. Credits have no cash value. You cannot lose real money here.

How dividends work

Once a week for each game, at the hour of the week it first opened for trading on Vidstonks, we pay a dividend into your cash on the shares of it you held over the week before. It is a small percentage of each share's player-count price, the same price the Rich List uses, paid in proportion to how long you held it: a share held all week earns the full amount, and one bought just before payday almost nothing. Selling during the week still pays you for the time you held. Cash earns nothing, and so do shares in a game close to delisting, and there is a weekly limit on what one portfolio is paid. A game's page shows its payday; your portfolio shows the rate and your next dividend. Dividends are play credits that count towards your net worth, but not as trades or profit. They are paid by Vidstonks, not by any game, developer or publisher, and we can change or stop them at any time.
